Franklin Delano Roosevelt. FDR. The man. The myth. The … worst president of the twentieth century. He has some competition for the title, but here are three reasons to nominate him as worst:
- FDR was responsible for the unconstitutional and unconscionable imprisonment of 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry (over 75k U.S. citizens) during WWII.
- FDR was sympathetic to communism, and coddled and propped up Joseph Stalin, the mass-murdering Soviet scum responsible for 10s of millions of deaths and untold suffering behind the iron curtain.
- FDR’s “leadership” during the Great Depression was directly responsible for deepening and dragging out the depression much longer than it would have lasted without his inept interventions.
Sadly, most Americans are ignorant of these three damning facts. Particularly persistent is the perception that FDR somehow saved America during the Great Depression. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is one of the great myths of the Great Depression, one which dedicated and courageous historians and scholars have been debunking for years.
Lawrence W. Reed, president of the Foundation for Economic Education, has written an excellent summarization of the history and related research, titled “Great Myths of the Great Depression“. I highly recommend that you read it, and pass it on to your friends and family. Here are some excerpts:
Old myths never die; they just keep showing up in economics and political science textbooks. With only an occasional exception, it is there you will find what may be the 20th century’s greatest myth: Capitalism and the free-market economy were responsible for the Great Depression, and only government intervention brought about America’s economic recovery….
The Great Depression was not the country’s first depression, though it proved to be the longest. Several others preceded it. A common thread woven through all of those earlier debacles was disastrous intervention by government, often in the form of political mismanagement of the money and credit supply. None of these depressions, however, lasted more than four years and most of them were over in two. The calamity that began in 1929 lasted at least three times longer than any of the country’s previous depressions because the government compounded its initial errors with a series of additional and harmful interventions….
If this crash had been like previous ones, the hard times would have ended in two or three years at the most, and likely sooner than that. But unprecedented political bungling instead prolonged the misery for over 10 years….
The Great Depression finally ended, but it should linger in our minds today as one of the most colossal and tragic failures of government and public policy in American history…. It was not the free market that produced 12 years of agony; rather, it was political bungling on a grand scale.

If a picture’s worth a thousand words, a meme is worth a million.
The other day a friend of mine shared with me this meme that has gone viral in the aftermath of the Parkland school shooting:
As a masked man pointed a shotgun at Tina Ring, demanding money, all she could think about was the safety of her daughter, Ashley Lee.
Ring, 53, and Lee, 30, were working Thursday night at the family’s liquor store, Forest Acres Liquor, when the man entered the store and told the mother and daughter to hand over money from the cash register.
“I didn’t want him to hurt my daughter,” Ring told the Tulsa World on Friday. “That was my main thought.”
The confrontation ended when Ring and Lee shot the robber, later identified by police as Tyrone Lee, several times. Tyrone Lee has no relation to Ashley Lee.

A South Carolina woman [Kaylee Muthart, 20] terrified churchgoers this week after investigators said she was seen across the street from a church gouging her eyes out with her own hands.
The woman survived, and was recovering at a nearby hospital.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and EMS responded to the scene after dispatchers received a call on Tuesday that a woman was holding a human eyeball in her hand…

Muthart’s mother, Katy Tompkins, told People that doctors informed her that her daughter was blind from the incident….
Tompkins said doctors believed her daughter used methamphetamine laced with another substance which caused her to hallucinate.
Tompkins said Muthart believed “the world was upside down” and she “heard voices that told her to sacrifice her eyes in order to make it to heaven.”
She said her daughter started using methamphetamine last year when she moved out. Tompkins said she tried to get her daughter to get help just days before the incident….

According to a study in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, which cites the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the United Nations International Study on Firearms Regulation, the more guns a nation has, the less criminal activity.
In other words, more firearms, less crime, concludes the virtually unpublicized research report by attorney Don B. Kates and Dr. Gary Mauser. But the key is firearms in the hands of private citizens….
Norway, Finland, Germany, France and Denmark, which have high rates of gun ownership, have low murder rates. On the other hand, in Luxembourg, where handguns are totally banned and ownership of any kind of gun is minimal, the murder rate is nine times higher than Germany. Their source of information? The United Nations’ International Study on Firearms Regulation, published by the UN’s Economic and Social Council and the United Nations Commission on Crime-Prevention and Criminal Justice.
When Kates and Mauser compared England with the United States, they found “’a negative correlation,’ that is, ‘where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are lowest, and where guns are least dense, violent crime rates are highest.’ There is no consistent significant positive association between gun ownership levels and violence rates.”
In 2004, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences released an evaluation from its review of existing research. After reviewing 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications and its own original empirical research, it failed to identify any gun control that had reduced violent crime, suicide, or gun accidents, note Kates and Mauser.

A burglar busted through the glass doors of a house … only to face a deadly barrage of bullets from the homeowner — a high-ranking Miami federal agent.
Authorities said Maria Otero, the branch chief of the Miami office of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, killed Robert Young III after he broke into her home at 1:29 a.m…..
Young, 28, has a lengthy history of arrests in Miami-Dade, state records show.
He got into trouble in August after becoming upset when a gas station clerk refused to call 911 for him. The clerk told police that Young smashed a bunch of wine bottles inside the store. He was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and was awaiting trial.
His record also shows a conviction in 2013 for grand theft after he and a friend held up an associate in Liberty City. He served a year of probation. Three years before that, Young did another probation stint after getting busted for carrying a concealed weapon.
He’s also beaten charges of carrying a concealed weapon and misdemeanor battery….

Venezuela’s air is thick with tear gas and its streets are stained with the blood of its youth.
The South American nation has been reduced to a battlefield as government forces brutally pummel protestors. For the past 50 days, Venezuelans throughout the country have taken to the streets in anti-government uprisings.
With approval ratings in the teens, the socialist and criminal regime of President Nicolas Maduro appears to be on its last legs.
Hundreds of thousands of protestors continue pouring into the streets, demanding an end to the corruption that has bankrupted the world’s most oil-rich nation.
Maduro has predictably responded to this pressure with more violence….
Over 20 years ago, under the banner of socialism and its endless list of impossible promises, demagogues hijacked Venezuela’s government, dismantled civil society, and crippled the national economy.
Led by Maduro’s deceased predecessor, Hugo Chavez, the socialists implemented measures that crippled the private sector and triggered massive capital flights and brain drains.
Growing up in Chavez’s Venezuela is the defining experience of my life. The country was collapsing and no one seemed to be able to stop it. The opposition was persecuted, journalists were silenced, peaceful protesters were murdered, and crime was rampant….
History has repeatedly shown socialism to be a corrupt and destructive force, and there is no better example of this than in today’s Venezuela.

There was a hail of gunfire as a jewelry store employee made the decision to shoot back – armed with an AK-47 rifle he keeps behind the counter – at four armed men who opened fire on his customers and staff during an attempted robbery.
The owner of Jeff’s Jewelry Store, Jeffery Turner, told police that four men stormed into his store, brandishing firearms. The armed thugs then demanded jewelry, purses and other items causing Turner to pull an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle from behind the counter.
When the armed thieves opened fire amidst store employees and customers Turner returned fire with the AK-47 rifle. At least three store employees drew their concealed firearms and returned fire on the suspects, striking one of the shooters multiple times, killing him instantly.
The dead robber’s three accomplices fled the store in a white Dodge Charger. Police found the Charger abandoned not far from the jewelry store and say the three suspects are still on the loose despite roadblocks and assistance from a DEA helicopter….
This isn’t the first time Jeff’s Jewelry has been targeted. In November of 2014, five men in a plumber’s van backed up to the store, jumped out, and smashed down the door with a sledgehammer.
