Comedian-pundit John Oliver has said (only semi-jokingly) that it’s misleading for climate change advocates to debate skeptics one-on-one, as it implies there is a 50-50 split on the issue. (Instead, Oliver says it should be 97 advocates against three skeptics.) But this misses the point. In sports – drawn-out playoff schedules aside – the championship isn’t determined by who has the greatest percentage of fans rooting for it; it’s determined by which team has the highest percentage of wins. Likewise, in science, what counts isn’t the percentage of scientists who are supporting a theory, it’s the theory’s batting average when it comes to making true predictions….”

“It’s a familiar refrain used by those who want to control what you think – The science is settled…. The science is settled!!  The globe is warming because of humans. Even though the temperature has not increased in 16 years, global warming is supposedly the most dangerous issue humans are facing…. When proponents declare that the science is settled, scientific discovery is exterminated.  Science proves theories by actually trying to disprove them.  Examples are actively searched for that negate a concept.  Using the Scientific Method, experiments are conducted with the specific purpose to refute an hypothesis.  Data is collected and examined.  If these experiments fail, then the theory has actually been validated. Pseudoscience does just the opposite by looking only for confirmations of a theory and avoiding challenges. Welcome to the world of global warming….  Contrary evidence and data is considered criminal.  Activists undermine anyone who exposes proof and facts debunking these theories, claiming they are deniers who hate science.  Yet it is they who are shutting out true analysis and rejecting scientific discovery….”

 Edward Markey (D-MA), other senators and Congressman Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) recently sent letters to institutions that employ or support climate change researchers whose work questions claims that Earth and humanity face unprecedented manmade climate change catastrophes. The letters allege that the targeted researchers may have ‘conflicts of interest’ or may not have fully disclosed corporate funding sources… Conflicts of interest can indeed pose problems. However, it is clearly not only fossil fuel companies that have major financial or other interests in climate and air quality standards – nor only manmade climate change skeptics who can have conflicts and personal, financial or institutional interests in these issues.  Renewable energy companies want to perpetuate the mandates, subsidies and climate disruption claims that keep them solvent. Insurance companies want to justify higher rates, to cover costs from allegedly rising seas and more frequent or intense storms. Government agencies seek bigger budgets, more personnel, more power and control, more money for grants to researchers and activist groups that promote their agendas and regulations, and limited oversight, transparency and accountability for their actions. Researchers and organizations funded by these entities naturally want the financing to continue. You would therefore expect that these members of Congress would send similar letters to researchers and institutions on the other side of this contentious climate controversy. But they did not, even though climate alarmism is embroiled in serious financial, scientific, ethical and conflict of interest disputes….”
