When she heard the door to her home on Woodrow Wilson being kicked in, she immediately warned the three teenage intruders and then opened fire…. One of the teens dropped a handgun on his way out the door. He then tried to get back inside the house a second time, but was again met with gunfire. Once again, he took off and all three were arrested shortly after the incident by Detroit Police….”

Robbery victim rescued by armed off-duty officer

“An off-duty police officer came to the rescue of a robbery victim last night on Houston’s north side, and he ended up killing the suspect….Police Department veteran C. Rodriguez was out of uniform and in his own pickup truck with a passenger when he noticed two men hiding behind a dumpster outside a convenience store. That’s when HPD says the off-duty officer saw the two men jump out and start beating a man who was walking out of the store with groceries. According to police, Rodriguez opened his window and ordered the suspects to stop. Officials said one of them responded by showing his gun and walking toward the officer, so Rodriguez shot him. The wounded suspect ran to a neighboring house where he collapsed and died. Police said they recovered a pistol at the scene. Police arrested the second suspect….”

“An off-duty police officer is being called a hero after he confronted an armed suspect who pulled out a gun in a busy restaurant. His valiant efforts may have saved a lot of lives…. Things were fine until suddenly an argument started at the bar. Police say it escalated and a man pulled a loaded gun out and started pointing it at patrons…. That’s when off-duty officer Joe Silva, who was there eating with his family, took action…. Drawing his own weapon, Silva led the man out of the restaurant and managed to take away his weapon, say police. Silva then held the man at gunpoint until more officers arrived and arrested the man. “

They were able to steal several items while the homeowners slept through it all. The men hit a second home about 40 yards away on the 2400 block of Patricia Ave. That’s when their luck ran out.  As they tried to gain access to the home, 59-year-old Carla came out with her shotgun…. The 44-year-old homeowner was sleeping when his frightened 18-year-old daughter woke him up, then told him that she heard noises and thought someone was breaking into the apartment behind theirs, according to a police report….
