More Certain than Death and Taxes
For failure to pay a tax penalty approximately equivalent to the cost of a fast food meal — $6.30 — the $280,000 home of a widow in western Pennsylvania was auctioned off for $116,000 [ref].
While I believe that people should pay their taxes (and vote for fiscally-conservative politicians who will rein in spending and lower taxes), I find it incredibly outrageous that such a meager unpaid amount would result in such a harsh penalty.
To me, this case speaks volumes about the sad state of our country.
You Go Gun Free
Mayor of Seattle Mike McGinn, frustrated that the state legislature didn’t pass gun control legislation, is asking businesses in Seattle to voluntarily become “gun free zones”. Participating businesses get a “gun free zone” sticker for their window [ref].
What absolute idiocy.
No Mo’ Manziel
Assume you are an outstanding athlete who recently ascended to the pinnacle of your sport. Your autograph is worth something. Would you sign over 4,000 pieces of memorabilia for sports memorabilia brokers without some sort of compensation?
Their Silence is Defining
On July 9th in Florida three black 15 year-olds brutally beat a 13-year-old white boy on a school bus [ref].
Not a peep from Barack Obama, Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.
This wasn’t the first time the trio opted to remain silent.
Sir Charles the Just
Retired NBA player and current NBA analyst for TNT television, Charles Barkley, nicknamed “Sir Charles” by many, is well known for his outgoing and outspoken personality.
In the wake of the Zimmerman trial, Barkley could have easily laid low and kept his opinion to himself.
Justice Severed
Almost everything about the Zimmerman Martin saga reeks of injustice.
Everything except the verdict.
Perhaps the biggest injustice of all — certainly the most public — was when a very un-presidential Obama declared that if he had a son, his son would look like Trayvon Martin. This outrageous and extremely ill-advised statement fueled the flames of bigotry and intolerance that already senselessly raged around the incident.
The Truth is Not in Them
Suppose you manage a store, and you need to hire a cashier. You post a wanted ad, and receive numerous replies. You narrow your list to a few candidates you think are the most qualified, and personally interview each one. One of your leading candidates happens to have prior experience working somewhere you had also worked. During his interview he makes some false statements about his experience there. Do you hire him?
Heck no.
Would you trust him with your money and your customers? I wouldn’t.
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is also in much” (Luke 16:10).
In other words, someone who is not trustworthy in small matters, is not someone you can trust with larger things.
May God Damn Planned Parenthood
Recently President Obama became the first sitting president to deliver a keynote address to Planned Parenthood. The same man who a few weeks prior publicly lamented the death of even a single child, practically sang praises to one of history’s largest mass murderers of children, and concluded his adulation of the assembled abortionists with “God bless you” [ref, ref].
You Get What You Pay For
The old adage “you get what you pay for” always seems to hold true — you usually end up getting exactly what you deserve. Problems. Failure. Sometimes even pain, suffering and sorrow.
Sometimes even terror and death.
