Washington’s Inversion Perversion

Excerpted from an article by Neil Cavuto, published 9/23/2014 by Fox Business

What is it with the government’s perversion with inversions? It seems the White House is so determined to crack down on companies trying to escape paying taxes here, that it never stopped to first consider “why” they are bolting from here.

Let me save you the trouble – it’s the higher taxes. And it’s killing a lot of American corporations. That doesn’t mean they’re putting profits before patriotism. But it does mean, without profits they won’t go very far with just patriotism. Bottom line, it’s about the bottom line. Companies need to make money, and a growing number of businesses have concluded that’s getting very tough to do here.

It’s not just the top corporate tax rate in America that’s hurting them. At 35%, it’s the highest of the world’s developed countries. But when you combine national, state and city tax rates, the so-called nominal corporate tax rate is nearly 40%. And that doesn’t include the cost of regulations, especially the taxes and administrative costs associated with the President’s health-care law….

Could We Have Beaten Nazis with Obama as President?

Excerpted from an article by Wayne Root, published 9/9/2014 by The Blaze

What if Barack Obama had been president during World War II? Could we have beaten the Nazis? I think it’s clear we would be all be speaking German right about now.

There is no way anyone can make the case that Obama would have gone after both Germany and Japan with the tenacity of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. I may not have agreed with Roosevelt’s economic policies, but when it came to war, the man in the wheelchair was a lion, not a shrinking violet, or peacenik. He understood how to win a war- there were no rules for Roosevelt (or Harry Truman).

… Obama plays golf while Islamic State kills thousands per day. He plays golf after announcing beheadings of Americans. He was absent without leave while our embassy in Libya was under a vicious terrorist attack. He webt to fundraisers in Vegas hours after a national tragedy, where four heroes were killed in Benghaz). He went to film festivals while Russia attacks Ukraine. He goes on vacations while the world…the Middle East…and Ferguson, Missouri burns.

Our commander in chief even tries to order our great ally Israel to stand down while Hamas fires missiles at her citizens. He does nothing to stop Iran from building a nuclear bomb. He laughed when Mitt Romney called Russia our biggest threat and said “the 80’s are calling to ask for their foreign policy back.”

Now Vladimir Putin is laughing and mocking Obama as he restarts the Cold War and threatens to retake all of Eastern Europe. Obama is like a fly on the tail of Russia. No enemy of America cares about anything Obama says. No one fears America under Obama. We’ve become neutered….

The Need for a Mighty U.S. Military

Excerpted from an Op-ed by Mitt Romney, published 9/4/2014 by The Washington Post

Russia invades, China bullies, Iran spins centrifuges, the Islamic State (a terrorist threat “beyond anything that we’ve seen,” according to the defense secretary ) threatens — and Washington slashes the military. Reason stares.

Several arguments are advanced to justify the decimation of our defense. All of them are wrong.

The president asserts that we must move to “a new order that’s based on a different set of principles, that’s based on a sense of common humanity.” The old order, he is saying, where America’s disproportionate strength holds tyrants in check and preserves the sovereignty of nations, is to be replaced.

… There are those who claim that a multipolar world is preferable to one led by a strong United States. Were these other poles nations such as Australia, Canada, France and Britain, I might concur. But with emerging poles being China, Russia and Iran, the world would not see peace; it would see bullying, invasion and regional wars. And ultimately, one would seek to conquer the others, unleashing world war….

The truth, in love: No one is born gay

Excerpted from an article by Michael L. Brown, published 9/8/2014 by OneNewsNow

If there was reputable scientific evidence that some people were born homosexual, I would have no problem accepting this. After all, my theology tells me that as human beings, we are all created in God’s image and yet we are a fallen race – and so all of us carry aspects of that fallen nature to the core of our being, and that could theoretically include homosexuality.

But the fact is that there is simply no reputable scientific evidence that anyone is born gay.

As stated by gay activist and history professor John D’Emilio, “‘Born gay’ is an idea with a large constituency, LGBT and otherwise. It’s an idea designed to allay the ingrained fears of a homophobic society and the internalized fears of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. What’s most amazing to me about the ‘born gay’ phenomenon is that the scientific evidence for it is thin as a reed, yet it doesn’t matter. It’s an idea with such social utility that one doesn’t need much evidence in order to make it attractive and credible.”

In other words, because the “born gay” idea has proved so useful, the fact that there’s virtually no scientific support for the theory hardly matters. It’s an idea that has worked wonders for gay activists and their allies….

The Great Equalizer

Equality. A word, an idea, that is often twisted and contorted to serve enslaving social and political philosophies.

Indeed, all men and women are created equal, but only insofar as they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, specifically life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

In all other respects, there is no equality.

Irresponsible Choices

Excerpted from an article by Thomas Sowell, published 9/24/2014 in Jewish World Review

The latest Gallup poll indicates that 14 percent of the people “moderately disapprove” of Barack Obama’s performance as president and 39 percent “strongly disapprove.”

Since Obama won two presidential elections, chances are that some of those who now “strongly disapprove” of what he has done voted to put him in office. We all make mistakes, but the real question is whether we learn from them.

With many people now acting as if it is time for “a woman” to become president, apparently they have learned absolutely nothing from the disastrous results of the irresponsible self-indulgence of choosing a President of the United States on the basis of demographic characteristics, instead of individual qualifications….

There is no Legitimate Redistribution

This past Friday Catholic Pope Francis spoke to United Nations leaders in Rome, and urged “the legitimate redistribution of economic benefits by the state” [ref].

I know many Catholics that I highly respect, and in many ways the Catholic Church has stood up for Biblical Christian values that many other religions have discarded in the pursuit of worldliness.  But in this instance the Pope is dead wrong.

What Silver Should Do About Sterling

Donald Sterling, owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, was allegedly recorded making racist comments during a private conversation with his “girlfriend”. Now, just about everybody is calling for Sterling’s head, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is under tremendous pressure to severely punish Sterling. What should Silver do to Sterling?

Lands of the Free

I don’t know all the history and details of the Bundy cattle ranch controversy, but I do know one thing for certain: It’s high time the federal government relinquished its control over so-called “federal” lands.

Absolutely contrary to the Founder’s idea of federalism, the federal government has become a monolithic power whose tentacles invade and pervade everything, everywhere. Over the years states have willingly and unwillingly relinquished rights and powers to the federal government, including control of land within their own borders.
