Concealed carry permit holder stops gunman shooting into crowd of people

 “… An Uber driver who shot and wounded a gunman who opened fire on a crowd of people in Logan Square [Chicago] over the weekend. The driver had a concealed-carry permit and acted in the defense of himself and others…. A group of people had been walking in front of the driver around 11:50 p.m. Friday … when Everardo Custodio, 22, began firing into the crowd…. The driver pulled out a handgun and fired six shots at Custodio, hitting him several times…. Responding officers found Custodio lying on the ground, bleeding…”

Officer helps kid fix bike

A Connecticut officer is being hailed for helping a Bridgeport child in need this weekend. Officer Cody Remy was on patrol in Trumbull Gardens on Saturday when city officials said he stopped to help a child, whose bicycle was broken. The kind gesture was caught on camera and sent out to local media. Remy was unaware the photo was taken….

Why a child of a gay father opposes same-sex marriage

…. Due to media silencing, political correctness, GLBT lobbying efforts and loss of freedom of speech, it is very hard to tell my story.

But I am not alone. Over 50 adult children from alternative households, plus ex-spouses with children, and parents who have left the “gay” lifestyle have contacted me. Very few children will share their stories publicly.

For many of us adult children of gay parents, we have come to the conclusion that same-sex marriage is more about promoting adults’ “desires” than about safeguarding children’s rights to know and be raised by their biological parents.

I feel so strongly about this issue that I have testified before lawmakers in Canada, regarding hate crime legislation, same-sex marriage and age of consent laws, and I have testified in nine U.S. states, to the 5th Circuit and to the Supreme Court, and in other countries.

Statements like this are lies: “Permitting same-sex couples (now also throuples) access to the designation of marriage will not deprive anyone of any rights.”….

Dear Fast Food Workers

Dear fast food workers,

It’s come to my attention that many of you, supposedly in 230 cities across the country, are walking out of your jobs today and protesting for $15 an hour. You earnestly believe — indeed, you’ve been led to this conclusion by pandering politicians and liberal pundits who possess neither the slightest grasp of the basic rules of economics nor even the faintest hint of integrity — that your entry-level gig pushing buttons on a cash register at Taco Bell ought to earn you double the current federal minimum wage.

I’m aware, of course, that not all of you feel this way. Many of you might consider your position as Whopper Assembler to be rather a temporary situation, not a career path, and you plan on moving on and up not by holding a poster board with “Give me more money!” scrawled across it, but by working hard and being reliable. To be clear, I am not addressing the folks in this latter camp. They are doing what needs to be done, and I respect that.

Instead, I want to talk to those of you who actually consider yourselves entitled to close to a $29,000 a year full-time salary for doing a job that requires no skill, no expertise and no education; those who think a fry cook ought to earn an entry-level income similar to a dental assistant; those who insist the guy putting the lettuce on my Big Mac ought to make more than the emergency medical technician who saves lives for a living; those who believe you should automatically be able to “live comfortably,” as if “comfort” is a human right….

Cop and ex-con join forces in unlikely story of redemption

They were the bitterest of enemies. For more than a decade, on the streets of Milwaukee, two men shared a mutual disgust. One was a hardnosed cop named Ray Robakowski…. The other was a drug dealer and gang-banger named Jacob Maclin. Jacob got arrested so many times you can watch him grow old in his mugshots. And it was that career thug — and Ray the officer — who sat down one day over a cup of coffee. The district attorney’s office arranged it. The meeting was to see if cop and criminal could work together and come up with a way to get out of this vicious cycle. But neither guy was buying it. Ray only showed up because his boss made him come. And Jacob was tricked into coming, told he had a job interview. So they basically just glared at each other the entire time. Ray thought Jacob was sure to screw up and wind up behind bars. But eventually, over the next couple months, Jacob proved to Ray that he wanted to get a job and turn his life around….

Cops use rock, paper, scissors to determine whether to charge underage drinker

Cellphone video shot during Chilifest has gone viral and landed three law enforcement officers in hot water. Burleson County [Texas] Precinct 2 Constable Dennis Gaas confirms … that three of the officers he hired to work security at the music festival last weekend … gave an underage drinker the chance to get out of a ticket by winning a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. You can see from her reaction that she was both excited and relieved to have won….

Graphic video shows cop fatally shooting fleeing man in back with eight rounds

A South Carolina officer has been charged with murder after video surfaced showing him shoot a 50-year-old black man in the back during a traffic stop Saturday, officials said. Records with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office showed that 33-year-old officer Michael Slager was arrested Tuesday and charged for Walter Scott’s death. Video published by the New York Times showed Slager fire eight rounds at Scott as the 50-year-old desperately tried to escape….”

Watching the video, it’s pretty clear shooting the fleeing man in the back was unwarranted. And it does look like Slager tried to plant “evidence” by dropping what looks like a Taser by the victim’s body.

Armed father thwarts home invasion

 “A father opened fire on three men who smashed in the front door to his family’s home. The home invasion happened before 5 a.m. Tuesday…. The man’s wife and child were asleep in another room. The father was in the living room on the couch when three men busted in. The dad grabbed his gun and started shooting, and the suspects reportedly fired back as they headed back outside. There were no reports of injuries, but the home invaders got away in a dark blue vehicle….”

Carjacker with car owner on hood stopped by citizen with gun

 “At a car wash in Smyrna, Georgia … a van pulled up next to a car and a teenager dashed from the van to the car…. The car’s owner, who had been vacuuming the vehicle, was stuck on the hood as the teen gunned it. Witnesses told KPRC that the woman started screaming, and surveillance cameras captured the carjacking as it unfolded. Cameras also captured the moment a quick-thinking city employee realized something was going wrong and starting chasing down the car

and firing his gun. The man shot the teenager in the shoulder, stopping the carjacking in its tracks….”

Officer collides patrol car head on with a wrong-way vehicle to prevent it from hitting other vehicles

A Brentwood, Tennessee police officer said he had to make a split-second decision on how to stop a driver going the wrong way down a major highway last Thursday. The result was this: a head-on crash between the officer’s cruiser and the wrong-way driver, all caught on the dashboard camera…. Brentwood police spotted the vehicle travelling at high speeds near Concord Road in Brentwood, and radioed ahead to Officer Cliff Thompson, who was north of the wrong-way driver. Thompson spotted the driver and attempted to use his patrol car to force her into the concrete median. But with the driver showing no signs of stopping, Thompson said he was forced to make a quick decision, as traffic had been stopped just a little further up the highway. So he aimed his cruiser directly at the oncoming vehicle – and held on tight. Both Thompson and the other driver, 59-year-old Sandra Sharpe of Nashville, Tennessee, were taken to hospital with minor injuries….
